Community Initiatives

Organize. Clean. Participate.

There are many initiatives focused on the beautification of Washington Township organized by both the Green Team and the township’s DPW during the course of the year.  You don’t have to be a member of the Green Team to participate in any of these events; all community support is welcomed and encouraged. These initiatives include, but are not limited to, the following activities:

  • Twice annual Clean Communities Day where organizations and individual residents adopt a section of a road to clear away the trash that has accumulate. These events are held each spring and fall.

  • Twice annual paper shredding and e-waste disposal at no cost to township residents .

  • An annual river clean-up in support of the Raritan Headwaters Association head each spring along the banks of the South Branch of the river that runs through our town.

  • The removal of invasive plants in our public open spaces including Koehler Pond, Harrington Park and Mill Pond Park.

  • Planting of native trees and plants.

  • Creating and maintaining habitats for pollinators

  • Sponsor an annual Green Festival each summer
